AWARD RECOGNITION

  Individual achievement award winners and the Award for Excellence winner were acknowledged during opening session. Cynthia Spry, RN, MA, MSN, CNOR, was awarded the Jerry G. Peers Distinguished Service Award at the beginning of Monday’s Peers Lectureship. Chapter award and writer's contest award winners were recognized for their accomplishments during Wednesday's QuizBowl. Find more information on the awards presented Wednesday here.For pictures of all award winners, go here.


BUSINESS
    Delegates voted to extend the Wednesday Forum by 30 minutes so they could continue the debate on the proposed dues increase and proposed changes to the AORN bylaws. Voting at the House of Delegates took place on Thursday.
 

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS    More than 500 people registered for the annual AORN Foundation Race for Patient Safety. The runners set off on their 3.1-mile course at 6:35 AM and began to cross the finish line less than 20 minutes later.
   The Pediatric Specialty Assembly (SA) collected pillowcases for pediatric cancer patients as part of the ConKerr Cancer: A Case for Smiles project. The Retired Nurses Specialty Assembly (SA) partnered with PROJECT C.U.R.E. to package medical equipment and other materials that will be sent to developing countries.

New AORN leadership

2010 GavelDuring the closing session at Congress, President Patrick Voight handed the president’s gavel to Charlotte Guglielmi, AORN's 2010-2011 president. Guglielmi announced her presidential theme, "Freedom to Be" and shared the values important in her life that have led her to the AORN presidency.
