Follow AORN on Twitter™

Anyone can follow AORN on Twitter to share information and to discuss issues that impact perioperative nursing. This year for Congress, AORN’s Twitter page at http://www.twitter.com/AORN will be used to relay news from session speakers, as well as information about room changes, giveaways, bookstore discounts, Twitter meet-ups, and more.

There are several ways to view the AORN Twitter feed. You can visit AORN’s home page and select theSocial Media Icons Twitter icon on the right hand side of the page, which will direct you to the AORN Twitter page. You can also view the latest tweets on the right-hand side of the Congress Voices blog, or by selecting the Twitter icon on the right-hand side of the Congress News Online home page (pictured to the right). If you already have a Twitter account, follow us @AORN.  If you do not already have a Twitter account, you can sign up for free and follow us not only during the week of Congress, but throughout the entire year. Following is a guide for registering a Twitter account. 

  • Select “Sign up now”
  • Enter some basic information about yourself
  • Enter your full name—first and last
  • Choose a username—Your username will be used in the Web address of your personal Twitter account page (ie, http://www.twitter.com/YOURUSERNAME)
  • After you enter your desired username, you will see a box appear next to the username field with the words “checking availability.” If your desired username is available, you will see a green check mark appear and the word “OK.” If not, you will need to choose a different username to continue.
  • Choose a password
  • Read the terms of service
  • Select “Create my Account”
  • A box will then appear with two random words that you will be asked to enter into the available field. This is to ensure that you are an individual setting up the account and not a computer.
  • Select "OK"

Setting Up Your Account After Registering

  • Step one--suggestions: Browse current Twitter users based on topic of interest (eg, Health, Books, Music).To do this, select a category and scroll down to review the names, locations, and brief bios of the users. If you see someone you would like to follow, simply select the follow button to the right of their name. 
  • Select “Next Step: Find Friends” when finished
  • Step two--friends: Find your friends on Twitter. Many of your friends and colleagues may already use Twitter. You can find them by searching your e-mail contact list from G-mail, AOL, or Yahoo.
  • Select “Next Step: Others” when finished
  • Step three—others:  search for individuals and organizations by name. Simply enter the name of the person or organizations you would like to follow and select “Search.”  You may do this at any time after you have set up your account by using the Twitter search feature. When you find someone you would like to follow, simply select “follow” by their name. Their feeds will now appear on your Twitter page.
  • Select “Next Step: You’re Done!” to complete your account setup and begin tweeting and reading others tweets.
