Colorado Convetion Center
The 2010 Congress will proudly be hosted in the Colorado Convention Center located at 700 14th Street, Denver, Colorado.

New - Congress Orientation Guide
The Membership Committee, along with input from various chapter members, has developed a Congress Orientation Guide. Created with the first time attendee in mind, this guide shares information and tried-and-true tips to make your life a little easier and help your Congress be spectacular! Also, don’t miss the two Orientations at Congress, Sunday, March 14, from 8-9:30 AM or 1-2 PM.

Delegate Chairs, Delegates, and Alternates

Important Information! Every chapter selects a Delegate Chair for voting at Congress. Beginning November 2, 2009, Delegate Chairs (or a designated chapter member) can submit Delegates and Alternates online at aorn.org/Delegates2010. The deadline for submission is February 5, 2010. After this date, all Delegate and Alternate changes must be done at the Delegate Counter at Congress. Chairs will receive a confirmation email of the Delegates and Alternates submitted and can check the list online at any time. Each Delegate and Alternate selected will also receive an email confi rming that he or she is a Delegate or Alternate for the 2010 Congress. If a Delegate Chair is unable to register their Delegates or Alternates online, please email the information to Deb Warren at dwarren@aorn.org or call 800-755-2676, Ext. 222.

AORN Live Learning Center
Purchase the complete AORN Live Learning Center in either DVD-ROM or ONLINE access when you register for the Congress weekly registration.  The AORN Live Learning Center allows you to listen and view Congress sessions fully audio-synced to PPT (as released for inclusion) and also earn continuing education hours. The $99 Online access and $159 DVD-ROM special rates are only available to registrants who purchase before Congress.  To learn more call AORN Customer Service at 800-755-2676, Ext. 1.

Meeting Room Requests
A limited number of meeting rooms are available on a space-available, first-come, first-assigned basis for chapters, committees, and other groups affiliated with AORN. Meetings should be confined to 60-90 minutes or less. All services such as audiovisual, catering, electrical, Internet, and meeting room rental provided to the group requesting the meeting room are the sole responsibility of the requestor. A $50 AORN administrative fee will apply. All meeting room requests must be received in writing by Friday, November 28, 2009. Meeting space request forms are available. NEW for 2010!
To better accommodate attendee schedules and allow maximum opportunities to attend education sessions and the Exhibit Hall, we are requesting the following:
• All chapter, state council, specialty assembly, and other committee meetings be scheduled either on Monday, March 15 between 7am and 4:30pm or Tuesday, March 16 between 7 and 8:30am.
• Ancillary groups may not schedule any events that provide Contact Hours opposite any Congress education session.

Education Session Information, Handouts, and Poster Abstracts
Selected information for the education and poster sessions will be printed in the Congress Resources and the Congress Program/Exhibit Guide that each registered attendee will receive in their attendee bag. All registered attendees will have access to the Session Handouts which will be available for viewing and/or printing at the AORN Live Learning Center approximately 30 days prior to Congress.

Jerry G. Peers Distinguished Service Award
Do you know someone who has made a significant contribution to the growth, progress and welfare of AORN?  If so, why not nominate them for the Jerry G. Peers Distinguished Service Award.  All you need to do is write a letter, addressed to Patrick Voight, AORN President, with the name of the nominee and supportive documentation, including:

  • Describe and give examples of contributions the nominee has provided in the support of the Association's mission and vision.
  • Describe and give examples of contributions to the professional growth of the Association and its members.
  • Describe the image projected by the nominee to individuals within AORN or to outside groups.
  • Identify familiarity of AORN members with the nominee.


The deadline for submitting this information to Patrick Voight is November 1.  You can send this information to Lisa Wyant at AORN Headquarters or e-mail it to lwyant@aorn.org.  The recipient of the Jerry G. Peers Distinguished Service Award will be selected by the members of the Board of Directors and presented at the AORN Congress in Denver, Colorado.

Poster Displays
Research/Evidence-Based Practice and Clinical Improvement/Innovation poster displays will be available for daily viewing during Congress week. The number of Contact Hours you may earn for viewing posters will be determined in January, 2010 The total number of poster sessions and Contact Hours available will be determined by the number of proposals accepted. Contact Hours and exact viewing times will also be listed in the Congress program given to each attendee on site. Additional information can also be found on the Congress website at aorncongress.org.

Volunteer at Congress by Being a Moderator or a Session Assistant!

Moderator: One Moderator is needed for every Concurrent Education Session. The role of the Moderator is to make quick announcements to the audience, introduce the speaker, and keep the session running on time. Session Assistant: Serve an important role and volunteer as a Session Assistant. Ten Session Assistants are needed for each Concurrent Session, and 15 to 20 are needed for the General Sessions. You can still attend your choice of sessions and earn contact hours. The primary responsibility of the Session Assistant is to assist the audience as needed. Congress Bookstore
The AORN Bookstore is your source for the perioperative resources you need to stay up-to-date in your field. You’ll fi nd AORN’s classic publications such as the new edition of Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices, as well as popular titles, speaker books, hard-to-fi nd publications, tool kits, CD-ROMs, and a variety of logo
items. The onsite bookstore will be located in Lobby F and will be open during registration hours. Stop by and shop our large selection and access the resources you need for your facility and personal library. Visit aorn.org/CongressBookstore for more information.

Center for Nursing Practice Booth
The Center for Nursing Practice booth is your source for clinical perioperative information. Located in Lobby F near the Congress Bookstore, AORN’s nursing specialists will be available to answer your clinical consult questions in person. AORN’s nursing specialists will also be available to discuss the importance of research, research
resources, and the Clinical InfoLink on the AORN website. You will have an opportunity to meet the authors of the Recommended Practices and the AORN Journal’s Clinical Issues Column. Visit the Center for Nursing Practice booth for all your clinical needs.

The Green Mission of Congress 2010
AORN strives to make Congress “greener” each year. In the continuation of our efforts, the Congress Registration Brochure you are viewing is virtual, the Congress Resources book will have fewer pages, the Congress Program/ Exhibit Guide is a new combined publication, and the education session handouts will be posted online at the AORN Live Learning Center. Additionally, AORN  will provide recycling stations and water stations, sponsored by Ascent Healthcare Solutions. These efforts continue to move AORN toward a more environmentally sensitive and “greener” annual meeting.

Internet Café
AORN is pleased to offer a Internet Café at Congress 2010. Bring your laptop to the Internet Café, located in Lobby D, and connect to the Internet for free! The Internet Café will feature plenty of comfortable seating and workspace so that AORN attendees and exhibitors can stay “connected” to the office, check e-mail, complete education session evaluations, and search the Internet.
